Gibbs Reflective Essay
My role as Content Creator for Dough Delights was to create the brand identity through a variety of ways. This included creating posters, menus, signage, and a logo. My objective from the start was to ensure our brand stood out visually, which led me to focus on a colourful and vibrant aesthetic. I kept a consistent colour scheme across all materials to maintain our identity and make our brand easily recognizable. My role required balancing creativity with practicality, making sure all elements were not only visually appealing but also functional and clear to any potential customers.
When I was assigned the role of Content Creator, I felt confident in my abilities, particularly in terms of creativity. Designing everything from scratch, especially a brand’s identity, seemed challenging but I was excited to take it on. Initially the process was quite stressful. The pressure of getting everything perfect from the start made me nervous, despite this, I enjoyed the creative freedom and the opportunity to contribute my ideas to the business’s overall presentation.
What went well: One of the successes of my role as a Content Creator was maintaining a consistent theme throughout every design. The colour scheme I chose worked well, as it helped establish a brand identity that was visually appealing and easy for customers to recognise. The posters I created were vibrant and drew attention, effectively promoting the business. Additionally, I was pleased with how the designs for the menus and signage turned out.
What didn’t go well: One major difficulty I encountered was the repeated mistakes in the signage and menus, especially with dates and prices. I often found myself redoing designs multiple times as our prices changed. This made me feel less efficient, as I would have to go back and fix issues that could have been avoided if I was more communicative with my team.
I got invested in my role, taking pride in ensuring that the content I created wasn’t rushed or of low quality. My commitment to quality led me to spend extra time refining the designs and making micro adjustments to achieve the right look. However, one area where I struggled was in communication with my team. There were times when I wasn’t updated on new pricing, so my content was outdated by the time it was complete. This lack of clear communication on my part led to unnecessary errors. If I had stayed more closely aligned with my team, I could have saved a lot of time.
From this experience, I learned the importance of clear communication within a team. While I was proud of the designs I created, I realised that staying in constant contact with the team is crucial. I also recognised the value of attention to detail—taking the time to double-check facts like prices and dates. I now know that successful content creation relies not only on creativity but also on a solid understanding of the business plan as it evolves.
If I were to take on a similar role again, I would focus on planning out all key details and information that needs to be advertised, making sure to include my team too. I would make sure I am regularly updated on any changes to the business plan. I would also make sure somebody other than me is proofreading and checking my designs to avoid mistakes.
