I volunteered at the British Heart foundation where I was allocated on the shop floor and had many tasks assigned, one of which being a cashier.
I volunteered at a Youth Group, promoting Eco-friendly habits. We completed many mini-projects, some of which I helped lead. All of which I was a participant in. As a group, we handled budgeting, planning, and executing the projects. One of the projects was teaching Young adults how to cook, on a budget.

As the Web Developer for our group project, my job was to create a website for Dough Delights using Wix, which is an AI website builder. It was my first time using WIX, so at first, I was a bit nervous but also excited to try something new. My main responsibility was to build the website from scratch, which included designing the layout, adding content for all my team members, and making sure everything looked good and worked properly. I set up all the pages like “Home,” “The Event,” “Menu,” and separate “About Me” sections for each person, with their headshots and role descriptions.
At the start, I felt quite unsure about using the basic tools. However, because Wix helped with templates and layout suggestions, the website was starting to look professional, at least in its basic layout. As I got deeper into the design, especially on mobile view, I realised it was not as straightforward as it seemed. Things did not always line up properly on smaller screens, and I had to spend extra time adjusting the layout and rechecking spacing. I was a bit overwhelmed at times, but I did not want to leave it half-done or hand in something messy. In the end, I was proud of how it looked, especially the homepage with the layout and our event details clearly displayed.
Looking back, I think I did well managing everything myself. I made sure everyone’s information was added clearly, the pages were easy to navigate, and I stuck to a colour scheme that matched our theme. It was good experience balancing creative design with the actual content our group gave me. However, one of the things I could have improved on was asking for more feedback. I feel the site was entirely curated by me, but more input from the team would have made the website feel more like a group effort. I also did not focus as much on things such as SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or site speed, which I know are important, but I was mainly trying to make sure the structure and links worked.
Doing this project helped me understand that website building is not just about dragging and dropping things into place, it takes planning, patience, and problem-solving. I learnt that mobile formatting is something I need to think about right from the start, and that checking how the site looks on different devices should be done early on, not just at the end.
Next time, I would start by planning how I want the website to be laid out, then build it in stages instead of doing it all at once, planning which pages I need to add and what each page will require. I would also leave more time for testing and get other team members to look over it more often.
Overall, I am proud of what I managed to create, especially considering I did it mostly myself. It gave me more confidence in using new tools like Wix and made me realise how much I enjoy using upcoming technologies, such as AI.
